Outdoor Safety

Everyone just loves being in their backyard, soaking up the sun and taking in the sights of the landscape.  The bright colors against the green grass so relaxing with a glass of wine.

Every backyard unfortunately has it's own set of hazards that can easily be remedied by a few simple products or preventative measures making it safe for children, adults, elderly parents and even your pets.

Outdoor Stairs

For instance your deck or porch stairs.  It's easy for a child wet from the pool or sprinkler to easily slip on those stairs or a parent coming over slipping on those porch or front steps from the recent rain, snow or even ice.  Oh and those splinters, how many times have you had to take a splinter out of a screaming child's foot because they stubbed their toe on your wooden stairs?  Stair Treads are also available for inside your home as well, making those slippery steps a thing of the past and creating a safe environment for your family and pets.

We put down stair treads on our front steps and also on our wooden deck stairs.  They can be used on wood or cement and have saved many children from a bloody lip due to a fall.

I am particular to the scroll work kind because no only do they provide traction on the stairs, they also trap dirt and outdoor "stuff" that won't get into your home.

There are also indoor/outdoor carpet types that work just as well and are easily kept clean with a sweep of a broom.

Flies and Bugs

I have this thing about flying things in my house, drives me crazy.  Not to say that it is not it can be dangerous having bees or mosquitoes biting you or your family including your family pet.  Being up all night scratching and those oh so big red welts from mosquito bites are not fun at all.  They can carry lots of different diseases and if you have a child, pet or adult that has an bee allergy it can be deadly if they get bitten.

I have dogs and I also have kids.  Both that are constantly in and out all day.  I've had more than one dog run right through my screen door to get outside.  Not to mention having to get up every time the dogs want to go out, the slamming of the door and yelling shut the door.  Did I say mosquitoes and flies and beetles and bees and anything that flies or crawls getting in my house?

There are different ways that you can keep out those flying nuisances. The most obvious one is a Screen Door.  The only thing I don't like is that I have to constantly get up to let the dogs out and the boys running in and out and leaving the door open.  They can also be pricey and I've more than one dog coming running into the house and there went my Screen Door.  Another way to keep the flying ones out of the house is a bug zapper.  For me, I didn't like that zapping sound.  One way I particularly like is the Magic Mesh, it's really easy to install, works great and it's an inexpensive fix to a big problem.

I saw this Magic Mesh advertised on TV and thought what the heck, I'll give it a try and headed to my local Walmart.  I can't even begin to tell you how great these are.  I don't have to get up to let the dogs in and out.  The "screen door" automatically shuts behind them.  The kids don't get yelled at for leaving the door open and I can even walk "through" carrying a tray and these little magnets just snap it shut.  Now don't get me wrong, I still get a flying nuisance in my house every now and then but these really do work.
